If you think Ghost Recon wasn't good enough to be GOTY, here's your thread to complain about it. I think it deserved it, the game was frighteningly realistic, and the sound was superb. But then there's Max Payne, Black and White...

Operation Flashpoint?! What's wrong with you man?? You've never played Ghost Recon, that's what's wrong with you...As for OpFlash, I hate it. I really hate it. The controls...gahh...Unreal Tournament is as old as Half-Life!! In fact, UT2 is gonna come out sometime this year...:D

As for the link...
Ghost Recon is GOTY

yeah, ghost recon got a lot of game of the years, pcgamer is probably one of the big ones

Any one who hasn't tried it should at least try the demo, its pretty sweet

Played the demo, just found it boring though. Operation Flashpoint I didn't like too much until I got used to the controls & stopped playing it like it was Quake 2 or something.
Max Payne I still play despite the fact I dislike it in ways (The AI & levels), while Serious Sam's just great ;)

hehe. then you should NEVER lay t\your hands on the rainbow six line. even more boring.

Revolutionary

Ghost Recon has a truely uniqe level of gameplay for the strategy FPS's. The sound is like nothing we have ever heard in a game before. I have to admit, the game played smooth with minimal bugs. Though I am a Wolfenstein gone Medal of Honor fan to the bone, I do like when a developer puts something on the table that achieves a level never reached before, not to mention is actually ready for release.

Well now pardners.
GHOST RECON ROCKS!!!... But so does MoHAA And RTCW. I pick GRECON because i get no lag on medium settings, the sound is sweet and the game style is cool. For example in one level where you have to collect intel from two houses and blow up a SAM site,
I sat back with team bravo next the extract point and ran the game from the command console. I sent a three man team 'alpha' and a demo specialist on seperate patrols into the castle walls to mop up the mission. Being able to switch and control different players and teams can be pretty addictive (if you like that sort of thing).

My new notebook, a Dell Inspiron with 512 Mb sdram, 15" TFT ultra display, and the Ati Rad 7500 graphics is shipping on the 15th.:giddy: Hopefully RTCW and MoHAA will play better on the Dell than they do on my current computer.

1st gen Plll 450 Mhz
128Mb ram
Sound Blaster Audigy (I really like this card)
ATI Radeon 32Mb Sdram (surprizing how good it works)
Creative Inspiron 5.1 speaker set

Ghost Recon is not boring... And don't ever refer to it as "the Rainbow series" it is completely (almost) different from them, even if they were fun also. Tons of gamers who played the Rainbow series complained about all the hostage rescuing, the secluded indoor environments...they wanted more freedom, bigger outside maps, and less ROE's (rules of engagement). Red Storm gave it to them, and it earned GOTY :)

Ghost Recon is nothing I'm crazy about. I love playing with a friend in coop.. It's really fun that way. But single player mode just kind of gets old.

ESPECIALLY WITH THE NEW PATCH

It has made it twice as hard. It is very realistic, yes.. But I don't play games to get shot in 14 directions before I even see anything.

Aww...That's the AI for you. Ruthless, just the way I like it...Try playing multiplayer, it may be easier :p

concur. i play games to relax and have fun. that's why i enjoy playing games on the easy settings. so i don't have to torchure my puny brain cells to win..
if i want to get all stressed and annoyed, i could always pick up my physics book..

Hmm...PCGamer's 8th annual awards were in the March '02 issue, but it probably took them a while to decide and play the two competitor games.
GOTY LAST year.

The Dark Project was a blast for me. I loved the "First Person Sneaker" attitude rather than just who shoots first.

I agree with Thomas. Operation Flashpoint IS the game of the year. I believe it has at least 8 major GOTY awards. Ghost Recon has one from PCGamer.

Ghost Recon is just Rainbow6 outside. Operation Flashpoint is a very accessible full spectrum combined arms lite simulation of war. It is currently my favorite game. COOP is incredible!!

I have both of 'em ( 1 gold & 2 ) but I don't think they're contestants for last year's game of the year ( even less for this year ).

If we are talking about 2001, I would put my vote on Return to Wolfenstein or Medal of Honor. But then again, Those two games are what I like in a game. Any thoughts ?

I think RtCW is very good, one of the best games in 2001. I only have the demo of MOH:AA so I can't comment that much. So far so good.
