NVIDIA to improve 2D image quality on NV30

Nvidia is working on this problem since the time of Geforce 3 TI 500 when we first time urged them to do something about this and we saw nice progress on Geforce 4 TI cards and learned that the real improvement will come in NV30 where engineers will pay special attention to this problem.

The company realises that the problem comes from some of their 15 or more partners who still have the freedom to use capacitors, resistors, RF filer parts or any other small component when making that Geforce cards. Some use cheap low quality components, you'll be horrified to learn.

Nvidia's answer to this problem is that with the NV30 it will start a new quality control process where it will make strongly encourage its partners to use the same parts that Nvidia uses for the reference design.

Hum?! Which is why the reviews & benchmarks are so good; using "reference" boards!

Geforce 5 in August

"NV30" In August - 5/01/02 6:50 pm - By: Ben - Source:
According to the story in the headline, Jen-Hsun Huang CEO of Nvidia stated today that the company will launch a fundamentally new architecture in August.
The new chip will be manufactured on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s latest 0.13-micron manufacturing process, Huang said. Huang did not reveal the name or specific features of the chip, but did say it was a fundamentally new architecture from the GeForce 4 Titanium introduced earlier this year.

"It is the most important contribution we've made to the graphics industry since the founding of this company," Huang said, speaking at the Merrill Lynch Hardware Heaven Technology Conference.

I still don't think buying a GeForce4 Ti4400 is a bad investment, at least not if you aren't on a tight budget.

Anyway, just wanted to comment on the thread topic, hmm... don't think they are going to call it GeForce anymore.

Eh? You mean the 2D graphics is still yucky even on a GeForce3 Ti200? I'm thinking of getting one to replace my GF2MX...

Well in comparison to Matrox and probably the majority of ATI cards its not in the same class. My GF3 displays everything better than my previous TNT2 and Voodoo3 2000.... ;)
