Sea Dogs Tweak Guide
Last Updated on January 04, 2000 by Thomas McGuire

Introduction

Sea Dogs is a 3D role-playing game set in the age of sail, where pirates & the empires of France, Spain, & England clash for control of the Archipelago. Players will follow the exploits of Nicolas, a young merchant captain whose recent escape from the clutches of Spain finds him in the unfamiliar islands of the these warring powers. From there you're free to choose your side or sail for yourself, follow quests, gain allies, plunder ships & duel rival captains.

This guide will show you how to get the best out of Sea Dogs, be it improved graphics quality, performance or whatever.

Troubleshooting

Install DirectX 8.0 on your system if not already installed.

Patch it; get the latest patch for Sea Dogs, currently that is the 1.04 available here.

Drivers, it is essential to get the latest drivers for you video card & sound card. You can find links to many hardware manufacturers on our Drivers page. This can solve (some) display or audio problems you may have encountered.

If you experience static noise or irregular audio playback, try the following (assuming that installing the latest drivers don’t fix the problems):

1.       Click on Start, Settings, then Control Panel. If you have Windows 2000 or Millennium Edition installed note the different names as shown in brackets below.

2.       Open the Multimedia (Sounds & Multimedia) icon.

3.       Select the Audio tab & then hit the Advanced Properties (Advanced) button.

4.       Select the Performance tab.

5.       Move the Hardware acceleration slider to the 2nd notch from the left (Basic Acceleration). Move the Sample rate conversion quality slider to the middle notch (Improved sample rate converter).

Sea Dogs can be sensitive to overclocking, if your system is overclocked & you have problems running Sea Dogs, e.g. lockups during the game, try restoring the system or graphics card to its default speed, or applying more cooling.
