Specifications
Listed beneath are the specifications of the SoundSystem
SiXPack 5.1 + as from TerraTec...
Perhaps of most interest is what’s missing from the
specifications list above, the DSP used. In this case it’s
the rather well known Crystal
CS4630 DSP from Cirrus Logic, something which TerraTec
rather curiously hasn’t mentioned anywhere from what
I’ve seen. Indeed, the SiXPack 5.1 is a mystery in several
areas.
The most obvious one
being that TerraTec have somewhat missed out on the
marketability of the Hardware MP3 Decoding feature offered
by the CS4630 based Soundcards, e.g. Santa Cruz & Game
Theater XP. Although I’ll examine this feature in more
detail further on, for now it’s probably best to leave it
at a lot more SiXPack 5.1’s could be sold with this
placebo.
Secondly of course the CS4630 DSP is fairly well regarded by most,
again, perhaps another attractive feature of the Soundcard
not being pointed out to prospective Purchasers - I myself
didn’t even know it until I was installing the Soundcard
& noticed it, even then I had to compare it with the
Game Theater XP it was replacing just to make sure.
