If you are interested in the ongoing discussions surrounding the recently approved unlicensed whitespace spectrum, this next bit of news might interest you as well. The FCC has for the first time released some clear specifications on access rules to this white space, including how devices operating in this spectrum need to behave.

The rules seem to try and make everyone happy, but could end up backfiring on them. The FCC has put in provisions for wireless as well as requirements for device registration. Some of the initial concerns voiced over this first rule set include people simply not bothering to register a device, which is seldom seen with unlicensed frequencies today.

This is probably not the final rule set that will be applied, and we can certainly expect more changes to show up as people adapt to the transition.
